Bureaucrats Can’t Decide If Pens Deal Is Almost Done Or Not

There’s seldom a better show than when public figures disagree in the press.  State senator Wayne Fontana, who no one had ever heard of before today, yet is familiar with the talks, is spouting off that the Pens and the government have come to agreement in principle and there may be an official annoucement within the next few days about a new venue for the team.  Turns out Fontana is a board member with the Sports and Exhibition Authority, the entity that would own the imaginary arena in question, so he might actually be in the know here.

Just as local Pens geeks are getting ramped up for the the good news, PA Governor and card carrying Pittsburgh hater, Ed Rendell, smacked down the rumor as “not correct”.  So, which elected blow hard is telling the truth here?  Well, Mario has allegedly promised the Kansas City investment group and city officials that he would let them know whether the Pens were accepting their offer by the first week of February, so…I guess we’ll find out pretty soon.  I still stand by my prediction that the Pens aren’t going anywhere, as I sincerely doubt that even a dick like Mario Lemieux is willing to totally sack his legacy by letting the team pack up, even for the mega money he stands to gain by doing so.

I know Wayne Fontana, a member of the S&E Authority, an un-democratic Democat — and, IMHO, a real jerk. He is clueless and not to be trusted.

His best quote was that he heard nothing — so that means everything is fine and hunky dorie. Him being a jerk is just my personal opinion.

They need to get the green light so that they can tear down 11 buildings. I expect that will happen, at taxpayers expense, even if there isn’t a deal to build a new venue. Haste makes waste.
