Adam LaRoche Finally Comes To The Bucs

Dave Littlefield has finally completed the much anticipated trade, bringing lefty swinging power monger, Adam LaRoche to the Pirates in exchange for closer Mike Gonzalez and a player to be named later. DL was allegedly holding out, not wanting to part with Chris Duffy as that 2nd player. Knowing Littlefield though, that player will probably end up be ing All-Star Jason Bay.
With Gonzo on the next train out of town, the Bucs will likely turn to Salomon Torres (age unknown), but have some other intriguing possibilities out there with Jonah Bayliss and maybe Ian Snell at closer. Let’s face it though, when the only realizable goal a team has is finishing .500, closer has to be pretty low on your priority list. The Bucs add that left handed power they so desperately crave, or as Where Have You Gone Andy Van Slyke headman Pat likes to call this previously unnamed entity, Lefty McThump.
In typical Pirates fashion, there is a downside to LaRoche. He’s been wildly inconsistent and reportedly has a questionable work ethic, which some attribute to his struggles with ADD, contributing to him never ascending past a platoon player with Atlanta. It seems only natural that the DL and the Bucs would totally sell out to an individual player with an iffy past. The upside to all this is, it’s a win-win for Pirate fans. If LaRoche succeeds, obviously the Bucs get much better in a hurry. If LaRoche flops, it’s likely the last straw for Littlefield and he finally gets fired. I don’t see how we can possibly lose on this.
