The Pirates Love Chris Duffy Like A Son

The PG is reporting that the Pirates are still hanging on to that dream of owning Adam LaRoche, the much hyped Atlanta Braves 1B that Dave Littlefield allegedly botched a deal for back in December. Allegedly, the Braves want a two-fer with Pirates closer Mike Gonzalez and have asked for OF Chris Duffy also. You’ll remember not so long ago that Duffy went through some “personal problems” and refused assignment to AAA, basically quitting the team for a while. The Pirates in sad sack fashion took him back, while he batted .255 with 2 HR, 18 RBI, and 26 SB in 84 games last season.
The Pirates are maintaining that he’s their only option in centerfield this season and have ixnayed the deal to this point. I know Nate McClouth isn’t the answer and neither is moving Jason Bay, but, perhaps ole ‘DL is playing a little too hard to get here. I mean, they’ve made due before in center for half the season…can’t they do it again until Andrew McCutcheon is ready to go? The Bucs have been plugging in sup par performers there since Andy Van Slyke retired, why not actually do it with a purpose this time?
