This is amazing. Troy Polamalu, star of stage and screen, is a rare breed in the modern day NFL player. He never complains and never makes excuses, grinds like a maniac on every down (even though I feel like he overplays in certain instances), and loves babies, animals and the elderly. Today, he said this regarding the NFL dropping fines on a bunch of Steelers players recently:

I think regarding the evolution of football, it’s becoming more and more flag football, two-hand touch. We’ve really lost the essence of what real American football is about. I think it’s probably all about money. They’re not really concerned about safety. It just loses so much of its essence when it becomes like a pansy game. When you see guys like Dick Butkus, the Ronnie Lotts, the Jack Tatums, these guys really went after people. Now, they couldn’t survive in this type of game. They wouldn’t have enough money. They’d be paying fines all the time and they’d be suspended for a year after they do it two games in a row. It’s kind of ridiculous.

And of course he’s right. The NFL has had a cheerleading skirt on QBs for many years, now it’s putting one everyone that Hines Ward touches. Ward was fined twice in two weeks on plays he was not penalized for. Admittedly, the first fine, for a play against Baltimore, was levied due to a taunt after a big crack-back block, not for roughness, but it still sucks. Everything Polamalu said there is 100% Grade A Ground Chuck true.

So let’s all vote here…how much is Troy going to have to pony up to the league for this? And for the sake of Mischievious Badger Jebus, please don’t vote “Nodda” and say he shouldn’t be fined for it. I know he shouldn’t be fined for it, in fact, they should give him a damn medal for it. Anyway, about that poll:

    I think he slides on it, partly because he’s him and partly because there was no malice intended.

    the calls have been laughable ,……. the NFL ,s Goodell and Anderson in front office are just like a corrupt political leader , Troy is right on the money when he quotes its about money the steelers where not suppose to be 4-1 the schedule given to the steelers this season give reason to belive the NFL is tired of the dominace of the Pittsburgh Steelers and it fans

    The steelers are good for the NFL but the problem is they do not have spy gate or Jerry Jones soap opra, T,O type players , look how the officals treat Big Ben he gets hit late and ruffed up and you rarely see a flag . another thing is the steelers win games by strong defense and balanced offense,s thats boring to the NFL , old style of play. The NFL wants high scoreing games won by quaterbacks and wide recivers like the patriots to be the NFL elite, the steelers have showed through the years they will not go that way so the NFl front office is trying to push them to the bottom .

    Its pissed NFL office off the Steelers have such a hard hitting quarterback sacking Defense so what do they do put the fear in the whole team so when they go out and play the have the feeling some one is looking over their should on every move they make that is why the fines with no flag to ward the horrible call on Harrision ruffing the passer, leauge office is sending a message to the whole Steelers team by attacking their best players. you have to question have you seen this type of treatment going to other teams NO the Cleveland Browns defensive tack le Shawn Rogers is body slamming quaterbacks , late hits and he has not been fined or flaged , why the Cleveland Browns are suppose to be in 1st place why do you think Cleveland have 5 prime time games on the schedule the leauge office is trying to get Cleveland back on the map .

    Look for the Sunday game to go as normall , now when the steelers play the giants and start the heavy 5 game schedule we will see the skrits come out.

    JC = NUTS.

    Why would the NFL want the Steelers (a huge draw everywhere they go, tons of merchendise sales) to not be good? The NFL just wants to make as much money as they possibly can. Unfortunately, that means protecting the stars to the point that you pretty much can’t touch a quarterback under any circumstance, and defensive backs are not allowed to play defense. Like it or not, and I DO NOT the majority of NFL fans want to see games in the 30′s and 40′s. I will take a 10-7 defensive battle anyday, but I am in the minority.

  4. Thejim Says:

    T-Ray is 100% correct there. The NFL has a multi-faceted reason for fining like they do 1.) They do not want stars getting hurt, even if it’s in the natural course of a game and 2.) They want to see defenses fail.

    The league and most casual fans want every game to devolve into a scorefest and short of having officials trip defensive backs, this is the most effective way to do that.
