Steelers Bid Adieu To Najeh

The Steelers, flush with RBs, cut Najeh Davenport today. Willie Parker is locked as the starter, the team just signed Mewelde Moore, and lucked into getting Rashard Mendenhall in the draft, so something had to give…unfortunately, that something was Najeh. Give the guy credit though, he picked up the blitz on 3rd downs, ran back kicks, and covered punts for 2 years – not exactly the most glamorous of gigs – and never ran his yap.
This move leaves the Steelers without a real veteran option as a 3rd down back, unless you count Moore, which I don’t. Things could get interesting in 2008 if the Steelers run Willie Parker into the ground, which they seem to enjoy doing.
